Date/Time:

7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Description:

Online Presentation by Docomomo US/WEWA

For more than 50 years, in an unparalleled partnership between the Seattle Times and the Seattle Chapter of the AIA, over 500 unique homes were highlighted monthly in the pages of our local newspaper.

Come and explore the homes and history of the Seattle Times/AIA Home-of-the-Month Program with State Architectural Historian, Michael Houser. The program, which began in 1954, captured some of the region’s best mid-century modern residences and showcased the work of our region’s most notable architects and their firms. Seattle Times journalist and editor Margery R. Phillips established the program with a group of architects. She wrote the monthly articles for the feature’s first two decades. With a simple goal to educate the public about residential architecture, the dwellings throughout the years were indicative of the shifting tastes and trends of domestic life. Many pushed the boundaries of residential design, and all were open-to-view to visitors, who were allowed to explore the architecture firsthand.

View these houses again (virtually) with Michael Houser, who will take us on a journey of the yearly designs.

Learn more about his amazing program through this webpage curated by Marga Rose Hancock, Hon. AIA.
