On-street parking available on Shilshole Ave NW, 17th Ave NW, NW Ballard Way, and Ballard Ave NW. No parking at the museum.
ABOUT THE VENUE: The Bakke Coffee Museum showcases a collection of espresso and coffee machines documenting the complete history of coffee. You’ll be blown away by the cool design of the machines, many from the mid-century!

Bring your good cheer and celebrate the holidays and modernism with us! Enjoy nosh and beverages. Around 7:00 pm, we’ll hold our annual meeting to take care of a couple Board business items, provide updates on WEWA activities, and move onto an informal presentation by Zack Bolotin about his new book, Art Hupy: Architecture and Life in the Pacific Northwest. We’ll wrap up the program by 7:30 pm and continue to mingle!

The book is a project of Zack Bolotin of Porchlight Design Co. A labor of love that is the result of four years of research, writing, and photo retouching, this book is the first to display a curated collection (housed at the University of Washington Libraries, Special Collections) from Hupy’s vast career that documented the rise of mid-century modernism in the Pacific Northwest. The book was published in partnership with Docomomo US/WEWA, a project that directly supports our mission to raise awareness and appreciation of modern design.

All event attendees on December 14 will receive a limited edition Art Hupy postcard. Like any other postcard, it can be sent in the mail, but unlike most postcards, it also plays on your turntable! You’ll find Hupy’s beautiful photo of the US Science Pavilion in 1962, complete with record grooves to spin on any turntable, playing an instrumental accompaniment to the new book on Art Hupy. The book (at the printer now!) has a limited print run so that means it will be the hottest holiday gift of the season! If the book is available when we have our holiday party, your donation of $100 (or more) to Docomomo US/WEWA will come with an autographed copy of the book (a $40 value).
